Riyadh, 8 June 2023 (TDI): The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco, Ayman Safadi, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the 80-member Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
They deliberated on the ways and meant to strengthen cooperation across various sectors and areas of mutual concern between the two kingdoms. The discussions touched upon the numerous international and regional issues of shared interest and also the approaches to boost collaboration on these concerns between Norway and Morocco.
Deliberations on Palestinian issue
The talks were primarily centered around the Palestinian issue. Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi recognized Norway’s strong commitment to a two-state solution to the Palestine problem. He commended the role of Norway in backing the development of the Palestinian economy as a chair of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC).
Commenting on the Palestinian refugees, Minister Ayman Safadi also noted the supportive stance of Norway on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). Norway has always been a committed provider of assistance and aid in backing Palestinian refugees.

Syrian Crisis
They engaged in discussions to explore possible measures and initiatives aimed at solving the ongoing Syrian crisis. The current Syrian situation poses a grave threat to the security of the region as well as the international community. Both states expressed their deep commitment to settling the matter.
Bilateral relations
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt expressed her gratitude for meeting with Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. She admired Jordan for playing a positive and leading role in promoting security and stability in the international arena.
The role of Morocco in countering the threats of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was appreciated by the respected minister. Norway highly esteemed the bilateral partnership and increasing defense cooperation between the Kingdoms of Norway and Morocco.
