Astana, 8 June 2023 (TDI): President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani met to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties and mutually beneficial cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration.
The meeting, which took place during the Astana International Forum, marked a significant milestone in the 30-year diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
President Tokayev expressed gratitude to the Emir of Qatar for his visit. He also acknowledged the historical ties and strong partnership between Kazakhstan and Qatar.
Both leaders highlighted the essence of deepening economic cooperation across several industries, including oil and gas, mining and metallurgy, agriculture, medicine, and the financial sector.
The meeting’s most important conclusion was an agreement to enhance exports from Kazakhstan to Qatar by $250 million, over 60 different product categories.
President Tokayev expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani for Qatar’s interest in Kazakhstani goods. Additionally, he reiterated Kazakhstan’s dedication to offering Qatari investors all essential assistance.
President Tokayev emphasized the need for direct flights between the two countries to expand business contacts. Establishing direct air links would enhance trade and investment opportunities and promote cultural exchange and tourism between Kazakhstan and Qatar.
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, praised the two nations’ constructive political dialogue and practical interstate association. He affirmed Qatar’s commitment to further developing bilateral relations. He also highlighted the successful implementation of previously agreed-upon agreements between the two countries.
Al Thani also expressed his optimism regarding the ongoing dynamic development of bilateral cooperation in various sectors. He also outlined plans to grow partnerships into new areas.
