Beijing, 18 April 2023 (TDI): During a phone call with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Monday, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang expressed China’s concerns over the current tensions between Israel and Palestine.

He stressed that China is ready to provide assistance in facilitating the resumption of peace talks between the two parties.

To control the situation wisely, Qin emphasized that both sides need to show courage and remain calm, demonstrating restraint in using provocative language and actions.

He further stated that the only solution to resume peace talks between Israel and Palestine is the implementation of a “two-state solution,” adding that “it is never too late to do the right things.”

Citing the Global Security Initiative, proposed by Xi Jinping, Qin believed that the Israel-Palestine issue could be more easily resolved by upholding a security vision.

He said that China has no selfish interests in the Israel-Palestine issue and only aims to promote the peaceful co-existence of all parties, bringing regional peace and stability.

After that, Qin highlighted that even long-standing conflicts can be resolved through dialogue, citing Saudi Arabia and Iran’s restoration of diplomatic relations as an example of overcoming differences through dialogue.

He hoped that all parties would seize the opportunity to promote dialogue and implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue, with the ultimate goal of safeguarding peace and tranquillity in the Middle East.

Cohen, on his part, showed appreciation towards China’s kind aspirations and support for a peaceful settlement of the issue. He stated that Israel also has the same intentions to cool down the situation as soon as possible, but acknowledged that the situation may not be resolved quickly.
