Mexico, Russia bilateral relations

Mexico and Russia formally established diplomatic relations on 1 December 1890 in Mexico City. In 1891 the first Russian Consulate opened in the Mexican capital.

However, from 1910 to 1917 the relations were practically non-existent owing to the revolutions in both countries. When Russia became the part of Soviet Union in 1922, Mexico became the first country in the Americas to establish relations with it.

After the ending of the Soviet Union in 1991, Mexico continued to maintain diplomatic relations with the new Russian Federation as its successor state.
