Galveston (TDI): A Mexican Navy plane crashed off the coast of Texas in a medical transfer mission. This aircraft was carrying a total of eight people at the time of the accident. Among the passengers were four Mexican Navy officers and four civilians, including one child.

The Mexican Navy confirmed that five people on board died during the crash, while two people managed to survive. One person remains missing as search efforts continue in the area. The Mexican Marine Corps issued a formal statement to offer condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident.

The purpose of the flight was to assist with a medical mission in coordination with the Michou and Mau Foundation. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing emergency transportation for children who have suffered life-threatening burns so they can reach Shriners Children’s Hospital in Galveston.

According to records, the plane departed from Merida in the Mexican state of Yucatan at 18:46 GMT. The aircraft was last recorded at 21:01 GMT over Galveston Bay, near the coast of Texas and close to Scholes International Airport. The Mexican Navy stated that the plane had an accident during its approach to Galveston but did not provide further details.

United States Coast Guard Petty Officer Luke Baker confirmed the death toll of at least five people but did not specify which individuals had died.

Teams from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have arrived at the crash site to gather information. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office also deployed its team and patrol officers to respond to the scene.

While the cause is not yet clear, weather conditions may have been a factor. A meteorologist from the US National Weather Service noted that the area had been experiencing foggy conditions with visibility limited to about a half-mile at the time of the accident.
