Kuala Lumpur, 23 October 2021 (TDI): The Malaysian Deputy Secretary-General of Multilateral Affairs, Cheong L.L. received the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Justin Lee. The two discussed matters of mutual interest and future cooperation on multiple forums. The Malaysian official on his part, underscored the significance of economic cooperation.

The Australian High Commissioner is a senior career officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia. Before taking charge in Malaysia, he served as Head of Mission in Bangladesh and Deputy Head of Mission in Jakarta.
Malaysia and Australia frequently collaborate with each other. They have a time-honored alliance based on a shared history. The two countries have remarkable people to people relations as well as strong bilateral cooperation. The ties can be traced back to World War II to the response to the prevalent Covid-19 pandemic.
Last year, the two countries celebrated 65 years of Australian diplomatic presence in Malaysia. Sharing a common interest in the free and open trading system, both have strong trade and economic relations. Malaysia was the second-largest trading partner of Australia, in ASEAN, and eighth overall in 2019-2020.
