Beirut, 27 September 2021 (TDI): The Minister of Energy and Water of Lebanon, Walid Fayyad, represented his country in the “High-Level Dialogue on Energy”. The Dialogue was hosted by the United Nations General Assembly via Zoom.
The Minister addressed the international community. He expressed his country’s commitment to developing the renewable energy market with the intent of possibly achieving the objective of 30% renewable energy by 2030. His claims were based on the International Organization for Renewable Energy Agency’s report.
The Minister underscored the significance of renewable energy in Lebanon as well as resolving the issues faced by the country’s energy sector. He stated that it was his Ministry’s priority to develop renewable energy projects. The aim was to develop projects with more than 4000 megawatts of solar and wind energy.
The Minister enunciated that such projects can only become reality if the international community helps the country. Moreover, cooperation between the private and public sectors of the country will also be helpful in this regard.
