New York, 29 September 2021 (TDI): Kyrgyz Foreign Minister, Ruslan Kazakbaev spoke at the High-level Meeting on the occasion of the International Day for the Complete Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. This meeting took place within the framework of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Foreign Minister drew attention to the fact that the nuclear-weapon-free zone in Central Asia makes consistent efforts to reduce nuclear weapons at the global level.

In 2014, five nuclear powers- Great Britain, China, Russia, the United States, and France simultaneously signed a Protocol on Negative Security Assurances to the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia. This Protocol guarantees, not to use nuclear weapons and not threaten to use them against the countries participating in the Central Asian nuclear-free zone.

The Foreign Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic noted that the policy of disarmament and prevention of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is one of the fundamental principles of the Foreign policy of Bishkek.
