Kazakh President receives the Delegation of European Union

Nur-Sultan, 5 October 2021 (TDI): Kazakh President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the European Union’s Special Representative for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore. Also, the European Union’s Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala.

Both parties discussed the prospects of interaction within the framework of expanded partnership and cooperation. The issues of regional security were also considered. The Head of State informed the EU delegation about political and economic reforms in the country. He also briefed about the humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

Eamon Gilmore stressed the importance of maintaining contacts for further deepening the partnership. He expressed the opinion that upcoming visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Brussels will become an important milestone in the development of bilateral relations.

The EU delegation welcomed Kazakhstan’s leadership in the region in context of stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan. Eamon Gilmore and Terhi Hakala informed the President that they will represent Brussels at the Central Asia-European Union Civil Forum, which opens in Almaty.
