UNICEF Deputy Executive Director visits Pakistan

Islamabad, 5 October 2021 (TDI): Omer Abdi, Deputy Executive Director for Programmes at UNICEF has just arrived in Pakistan where he meets the officials of Pakistan to discuss issues affecting children. He met with various officials of Pakistan to discuss problems faced by the Education Sector of Pakistan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Omer Abdi met with Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mehmood with George Laryea-Adjei and Aida Girma. He applauded the coordinated response of Pakistan to the pandemic, especially in the Education sector.

He further appreciated Shafqat Mehmood on Pakistan effort’s to reopen schools and regulating proper classes with COVID-19 safety measures. Omer Abidi added that UNICEF will continue to support the Education Ministry of Pakistan in reducing the rate of girls and boys who are still out of school and also help them by providing alternative learning programmes and promote digital learning in a reasonable manner.
