Beirut, 24 January 2022 (TDI): On Wednesday, Jordan, and Lebanon will sign a contract to supply the latter with electricity. This is an energy transit agreement between Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan.

Specific Details about the Electricity Contract 

In this regard, the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan, and Syrian Minister of Electricity agreed upon the joint power contract. 

That is why, Walid Fayyad, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and Ghassan Al-Zamil met with the authorities of the electrical sector. Thus, the General of the Electricité du Liban and the Director-General of the National Electricity Company of Jordan joined the meeting. 

In consequence, Jordan and Lebanon ministers and delegations head to Syria to sign the transit agreement. This will be signed on the Syrian side by the Director-General of the Public Corporation for Transport and Electricity. 

Important Remarks of the Jordan and Lebanon Authorities

In this way, the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources stressed the importance of the agreement to help the Lebanese nation. Mainly considering Jordan’s friendship with Lebanon. 

That is why Saleh Al-Kharabsheh met part of Lebanon’s electrical needs in the implementation of the Kingdom’s King Abdullah II directives. This is about standing with the Lebanese people and supporting them in overcoming the obstacles they face in the energy sector.

Besides that, the Jordanian Minister elaborated by declaring specific details of the agreement. First, it stipulates that Jordan will provide Lebanon with about 150 megawatts of electricity from midnight to 6 a.m. Second, it will provide 250 megawatts during the rest of the hours.

In brief, Minister Kharabsheh confirmed that the project will benefit the Jordanian electrical system. Not to mention it will supply directly to Lebanon from the transmission networks.

Along these lines, he stressed that the selling price of electrical energy to Lebanon will not bring any losses to the Jordanian electrical systems. This is because the distribution costs will not be included in the selling price.
