Djibouti city, 17 August 2022 (TDI): The United Nations Development Program- Intergovernmental Authority on Development (UNDP-IGAD) joint Borderlands Program Validation and Partnership workshop is underway at Djibouti Palace Kempinski.

The two-day workshop is scheduled from 17th-18th August 2022.

Agenda of the Workshop

UNDP-IGAD agrees to collaborate closely in promoting resilience and borderland development in the Horn of Africa.

The workshop aims at joint efforts, recommendations, and lessons generated by project evaluations. The top priority is adopting such measures through the workshop’s Technical and Steering Committees.

The Workshop’s main objective is to validate and agree on the joint IGAD-UNDP Program Document on the Socio-economic development of borderlands.

Moreover, the workshop also envisions a Memorandum of Understanding between UNDP and IGAD. The Memorandum of Understanding’s main purpose is to promote joint programmatic initiatives in the Horn of Africa.

The Workshop engages technical experts from IGAD and UNDP Africa to discuss issues related to the development in the Horn of Africa.

The development of a joint Partner’s Engagement Strategy and roadmap development partners on respective strategic priorities for the Horn of Africa is also under consideration.

UNDP-IGAD Partnership

UNDP-IGAD partnership is one of the best partnerships between a UN agency and IGAD. UNDP strengthens the capacity of IGAD by allocating resources for mediation support, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding.

Both parties are strengthening their cooperation on peace and security initiatives in the African region. The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development launched the UNDP Africa Borderlands Center in February 2021.

Both UNDP and IGAD are looking forward to working together. Both teams will continue to work on joint resource mobilization for regional peace and security.
