Tehran, 4 January 2022 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran released an official statement in commemoration of the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani.
Remembering General Soleimani, the Ministry stated that he played a significant role in line with the conscientious policies of Iran to establish stability and peace at the regional as well as international levels.
Moreover, he embraced diverse actions to combat international terrorism and proliferating terrorist outfits across the region. Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani was awarded the title of the Hero of the Fight against Terrorism and the General of Peace. Qasem Soleimani was one of the highest-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the territory of Iraq as the host country.
In spite of this, the US government, through using false claims like that of countering terrorism, in a criminal act that disregards the principles of international law, orchestrated and carried out a terrorist attack against Martyr General Soleimani.
General Soleimani, the International Counter-Terrorism Hero was assassinated by the then US officials. The Iranian Foreign Ministry in its statement claimed that to publicly assassinate the Iranian Hero exposes the lies of counter-terrorism claimants.
The martyrdom of General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, and their companions, diminished the capacity of the Axis of Resistance. Moreover, it also suffused the domestic environment of Iran with national unity and cohesion.
Regardless, it accentuated the strategy and discourse of the Resistance. In response to the assassination, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran retaliated against the American troops stationed at the Ain al-Assad base in Iraq.
According to the statement, the unlawful act of the United States in martyring the General is an unmistakable embodiment of a “terrorist attack” that was staged and carried out in a methodical manner by the then US government and the White House is responsible for it.
It notes that the US government bears “definitive international responsibility” for this crime and all the instigators, contributors, agents, and perpetrators of this terrorist crime are accountable.
Consequently, in collaboration with other agencies and the Judiciary of Iran, the Foreign Ministry has embraced measures since the beginning based on the lawful principle of “combating the impunity of criminals” to hold such individuals and entities accountable. These measures have been taken by Iran at the political, legal, international, and public diplomacy dimensions.
