Ashgabat, 4 January 2022 (TDI): The government of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) has composed a list of activities for 2022 to be carried out on a regular basis.

This comes as part of the systematic expansion of cooperation between Turkmenistan and WHO, in certain dimensions of cooperation. A set of actions have been adopted to prevent infectious diseases and ensure health across the board.

Collaboration with WHO

These include training of specialists, development of clinical treatment protocols, seminars, and training as well as the implementation of the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Plan and the Guidelines for Epidemiological Surveillance for Acute Respiratory Infections.

As per the plan, special attention will be given to COVID-19 pandemic control actions, specifically to infection prevention and infection control along with public awareness on risks, as well as implementation and development of the National Plan on Vaccinations against COVID-19.

In addition, activities related to the implementation of the national strategy on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), maternal and child health, development of a roadmap for the reform of primary health care, tobacco control, etc. are also part of it.

Working Together to ensure Better Health

Aside from the above, the list incorporates measures to establish a partnership with the Central Asian Republics Information Network (CARINFONET), develop health diplomacy, as well as work on the implementation and transition of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11) developed by WHO, COVID-19 certification coding, training staff on ICD-11 classification, and public health surveillance.

In this regard, the document also comprises several factors on further the digitalization of Turkmenistan’s national health care system. Likewise work is carried out by the Government of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross as well as the International Federation of Red Cross along with the Red Crescent Societies.
