Iran, Hungary Foreign Ministers engages in high-level talks

Tehran, 23 February 2024 (TDI):  Péter Szijjártó, Foreign and Trade Minister of Hungary engaged in high-level talks with Amir-Abdollahian, Foreign Minister of Iran on Thursday in Tehran. The Foreign Ministers meeting aimed to foster dialogue and cooperation between the two nations to mitigate tensions in the Middle East.

During the meeting, Minister Szijjártó underscored the pivotal role of diplomacy in bridging divides and averting conflicts. He emphasized the importance of direct communication among nations with different perspectives.

Furthermore, he also stressed the necessity of dialogue to address and prevent significant challenges, including the risk of regional or broader conflicts. 

During the meeting, Foreign Ministers of Hungary and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. Amir-Abdollahian expressed satisfaction with the progress of bilateral relations between the two nations.

The both Foreign Ministers agreed on further dialogue and consultation to foster bilateral relations between Hungary and Iran.

In addition, he highlighted the signing of two strategic documents and a roadmap for agricultural cooperation during the Joint Economic Commission. The implementation of these agreements was emphasized as a key priority.

Moreover, Amir-Abdollahian called for the realization of Palestinian rights and an end to the Israeli regime’s actions in Gaza. He reiterated Iran’s stance on seeking political solutions in line with United Nations resolutions and condemned the escalation of conflicts in the region.

Szijjártó echoed these sentiments, expressing deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Gaza and broader insecurity in the Middle East. He urged all nations to act responsibly to facilitate a ceasefire in Gaza and work towards regional stability.

Additionally, Szijjártó advocated for the complete implementation of the Iranian nuclear agreement. He emphasized dialogue to enhance mutual understanding and prevent conflict escalation. 

Addressing energy security concerns

He, also engaged in discussions with the Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs, Ehsan Khandozi on Thursday. He commended Iran’s commitment to addressing energy security concerns.

Moreover, he stressed the significance of Iran’s increased participation in the global energy market, aligning with the interests of nations worldwide, particularly in Europe.

Szijjártó affirmed the continuation of bilateral cooperation in water management, including refining and treatment processes.

Despite the obstacles posed by sanctions, Szijjártó emphasized the mutual effort required to enhance economic and commercial ties between the both nations.

In response, Iranian Minister Ehsan Khandozi praised Hungary’s independent stance in fostering relations with Iran amidst Western restrictions, affirming the growing trajectory of bilateral cooperation.

Minister Khandozi highlighted the determination of both sides to strengthen relations, emphasizing Hungary’s independent foreign policy positions.
