Tehran, 4 July 2024 (TDI): The Foreign Ministry of Iran will be hosting the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) Conference on Preventing and Countering Terrorism on 3rd and 4th July 2024.

Today marked the start of the 63rd Annual session of the Regional Conference. It is being held at the Institute for Political and International Studies in Tehran, Iran.

In order to address the problem of terrorism, eminent representatives from AALCO, the UN, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) participated.

Other notable attendees included the African Union and specialists from AALCO member nations for the two-day conference.

Opening Remarks

Prominent delegates gave opening statements during the conference. This laid the groundwork for in-depth conversations on counterterrorism.

Additionally, Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei, the advisor to the Iranian foreign minister, delivered remarks at the conference.

He emphasized the value of AALCO’s contribution to enhancing global counterterrorism cooperation.

Furthermore, he denounced terrorist assaults, calling them disastrous for peace and international relations.

Along with expressing Iran’s ongoing suffering due to terrorism, Kadkhodaei criticized the US and Europe for removing the Mojahedeen-e Khalq Organization (MKO) from their terrorist lists.

Main Themes

The event’s four main themes are “The Role of International and Regional Organizations in Preventing and Countering Terrorism” and “The Responsibility of States and Individuals Concerning Terrorism.”

Moreover, other themes include “Prevention and Counter-Terrorism: From Theory to Action” and “Regional Cooperation in Preventing and Countering Terrorism.”

The conference seeks to offer a holistic perspective on contemporary obstacles and tactics in counterterrorism. For this purpose, talks, roundtables, and expert analysis have been organized.

The program will present international legal viewpoints from AALCO member nations. However, particular emphasis has been placed on Iran’s strategy for stopping and opposing terrorism.

Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization

Since its formation in 1956, AALCO has grown in both membership and scope. Today, it serves as a crucial forum for Asian and African nations to discuss legal matters of mutual interest, including terrorism.

Moreover, AALCO has 48 member states, most of which are significant Asian and African nations. These nations constitute two-thirds of the global population.
