Tehran, 13 January 2024(TDI): Nasser Kanani, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, strongly condemned the US and UK military strikes on various Yemeni cities early Friday, calling them arbitrary acts.
Additionally, he argued that it was evidently against international law and norms, as well as Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Nasser Kanaani reported that the military strikes align with the full backing of the United States and Britain for the Israeli regime’s war crimes against the Palestinian people, particularly those enduring a total siege in the Gaza Strip over the last hundred days.
According to reports, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also appealed for moderation and avoiding escalation following the strikes, stating that “it was closely monitoring the situation.”
Moreover, the US and UK military strikes against Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who continue to attack international shipping in the Red Sea.
Criticism on UNSC resolution
Moreover, the Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the US-backed 2722 UNSC resolution on Yemen purportedly aimed to safeguard Red Sea navigation rights.
However, it was merely a guise for advancing the political objectives of the United States, which involved supporting the Israeli regime’s ongoing atrocities against the defenseless people of Gaza.
Nasser Kanani stated that “arbitrary attacks will have no result other than to fuel insecurity and instability in the region.”

Iran has criticized the US government for supporting the Israeli occupation in Gaza, despite three months of brutal military strikes and massive infrastructural destruction.
Iran asserts that the United States’ decision to block a Security Council resolution calling for an end to the Gaza war undermines the Council’s role in protecting international peace and security.
However, this move contradicts the international community’s pleas to halt Palestinian bloodshed and achieve a ceasefire. Kanani further stated that the US’s actions are deemed a threat to international peace and security.
Kanaani emphasized the adverse effects of unlawful attacks on regional peace and security, urging the international community to act responsibly to prevent the escalation of violence, instability, and insecurity in the region.
