IOL on C190- Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190)

-

Geneva- 25th June 2021(TDI):  Violence and harassment at work can damage a worker’s physical and psychological health. Looking at the sensitive subject International Labour Organization came up with C190 so that governments realize the right to a world of work free from violence and harassment in consultation with employers and workers.

In many years Convention No.190 is the first international treaty that recognizes the right of everyone in the world to work free from any kind of violence and harassment. The Convention was first adopted in June 2019 by the International Labour Conference and successfully came into force on 25th June 2021. Any government that ratifies C190 will have to put necessary laws and policy measures to counter violence and harassment in the world of work. ILO is now working on a global campaign to build support for C190. The end goal is that national governments start to ratify and implement this convention to shape a future of work based on dignity and respect for all.
