Discussion in the Meeting
A group of radical extremist forces from the Armenian diaspora in France attacked the Azerbaijani Embassy in Paris. A gross violation of French law clearly accompanied it. Moreover, it was also a violation of generally accepted international legal norms. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Khalaf Khalafov, stated these events during the meeting.
The incident caused physical damage to the embassy building. In addition, the incident also put the lives of the staff members and the diplomatic mission’s operations in danger.
In accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, it was France’s responsibility to ensure the security of any diplomatic missions it sponsored. The Deputy Minister of Azerbaijan strongly objected to the conditions radical Armenian groups used to carry out their actions. He further objected to the failure to stop them in time by the French authorities.
Additionally, Deputy Foreign Minister demanded that the French law enforcement agencies conduct a thorough investigation into the act of vandalism. France should investigate the activity that put the diplomatic mission and its staff in danger. An appropriate legal assessment is made, the offenders are brought to justice, and damages should be made good, demanded the Deputy Foreign Minister.
