Azerbaijan and UK discuss regional issues

Baku, 17 September 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of State for Europe of the United Kingdom, Leo Docherty.

During the telephone conversation, the two countries discussed the tense situation in the region as a result of provocations by Armenia.

Telephonic conversation

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that since 12 September, 79 servicemen were killed. This resulted due to the firing and attacks on the positions of our armed forces in the region. The responsibility for the tension in the region falls on Armenia.

Bayramov talked about Armenia’s non-observance of obligations within the framework of the agreements reached after the 44-day Patriotic War. Furthermore, the two sides also talked about the obstacles and series of provocations Armenia created for the normalization process in the post-conflict period.

Foreign Minister Bayramov emphasized that it is important that there is an observation of the ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Jeyhun Bayramov said that Armenia should refrain from provocations and that the issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia need resolution through negotiations.

Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that Azerbaijan is interested in the process of normalization with Armenia at the political and diplomatic levels. He told the minister of the UK that Azerbaijan is a country that promotes the peace agenda. He added that Azerbaijan is in favour of carrying out reconstruction works in the region.

State Minister Leo Docherty, in turn, expressed his concern over the situation. He expressed his condolences for the death of Azerbaijani military personnel. He also expressed his satisfaction that there is currently an observation of a ceasefire.

The Minister of Europe in the UK expressed hope that they will ensure stability and the process of normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia will continue.

Later, both parties exchanged views on issues on the agenda of Azerbaijan-Great Britain bilateral cooperation.
