Foreign Ministers expressed solidarity with Greece and Turkey

-

Athens, 7 August 2021 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias of Greece communicated with his counterparts from Kuwait, Georgia, Jordan, Turkey, Poland, and Croatia who expressed solidarity in light of the recent European plight of wildfires in Greece and Turkey. All foreign ministers conveyed their readiness to send assistance to curb the deadly wildfires.

In one of the worst heatwaves in Europe, wildfires have erupted in Southern European countries of Greece and Turkey. Greece faces more than 100 wildfires and Turkey lost at least 8 persons as well as many animals to the wildfires. Thousands of people face displacement and evacuations in Greece since the wildfires closed in on the outskirts of Athens and in the east, the island of Evia. These wildfires are due to the rise in temperatures up to 40 Celcius in the region.
