Munich, 17 February 2024 (TDI): On February 16, 2024, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for efforts to bring China-UK relations back to the right track of sound and stable development.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the necessity of concerted efforts to steer China-UK relations back on track with development. He said this during a meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron in Germany.

Need to address bilateral challenges
Transitioning from the current global backdrop characterized by turbulence, rising Cold War mentality, protectionism, and sluggish economic recovery, Wang Yi underscored the imperative for China and the United Kingdom.
The permanent members of the United Nations Security Council aim to bolster strategic communication and promote security and peace. Wang Yi stressed the importance of expanding the convergence of interests and effectively addressing China-UK challenges.
He emphasized that bringing China-UK relations back on track aligns with the fundamental and long-term interests of both nations. This also resonates with the aspirations of the international community.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron expressed the United Kingdom’s commitment to viewing its relations with China from a strategic perspective. He pledged to collaborate with China on areas of common interest.
Additionally, Cameron highlighted the United Kingdom’s dedication to advancing cooperation with China in domains like renewable energy, the economy, and education.
As a fellow permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Cameron emphasized the shared responsibility of the United Kingdom and China in upholding global peace and security.
Furthermore, Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s stance as a major force for peace and stability. Genuine multilateralism and upholding the international system centered on the United Nations and international law.
