Berlin, 14 July 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Oman, Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, held a meeting with the Secretary of State at the German Foreign Office, Andreas Michaelis, on Thursday.

The meeting was held in Berlin as part of the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq’s official visit to Germany. The Head of the Minister’s Office Department of Oman, Khalid Hashel Al Muselhi, and the German Ambassador to Oman, Thomas Schneider, were also in attendance.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed their longstanding bilateral cooperation in various fields. They also discussed ways to raise the levels of cooperation to serve the common interest of Omani and German people.

The Foreign Minister of Oman with the Parliamentary State Secretay of Germany, Niels Annen, discussed joint ambitions to develop key sectors such as Green Energy.


The two sides stressed the significance of the Royal Visit of the Sultan, which they said, ushered in a new era of partnership in various spheres, notably investment, economy, renewable energy, and scientific fields.

The two Ministers also exchanged views on cooperation in water management as well as regional issues. In addition, the two sides also affirmed their commitment to growing and expanding Oman-German cooperation in several fields, including trade and culture.


Oman-German bilateral relations

Oman and Germany have enjoyed close friendly relations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1972.

The first German Embassy in Muscat was opened in 1976. Subsequently, in 1992, the German-Omani Association was founded. It seeks to develop friendly relations between the two countries in business, science, academia, culture and sports.

The recent official visit of the Sultan of Oman to Germany also coincides with the 50th anniversary of this partnership.

Oman and Germany share a common view of a rule-based international order, seeking peace and understanding between people and nations. German Ambassador to Oman wrote in a recent report, “Germany and Oman are reliable partners –bilaterally and on international fora.”

Germany is also one of Oman’s key economic partners in the oil sector.
