Brussels (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of Malaysia to the European Union, Dato’ Khalid Abbasi, in Brussels today.
The meeting underscored the enduring commitment of both nations to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on regional and global matters.
During the meeting, both envoys reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Malaysia.
They further highlighted that the two nations are bound by shared values of mutual respect, deep cultural ties, and a commitment to peace and progress.

The ambassadors acknowledged the growing potential for increased collaboration in diverse sectors, including trade, tourism, economy, investment, education, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
During the meeting, Ambassador Qureshi and Ambassador Abbasi also held an in-depth discussion on the evolving geopolitical landscape, both regionally and globally.
The exchange of perspectives reflected on a shared interest in promoting stability, multilateralism, and constructive engagement within the international community.
Both sides emphasized the importance of a cooperative approach in addressing emerging global challenges, including economic recovery, security, climate change, and sustainable development.
As a gesture of solidarity, Ambassador Rahim Hayat Qureshi signed the condolence book at the Malaysian Embassy on the passing of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Moreover, Ambassador Qureshi expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan, paying tribute to the former Prime Minister’s vision, leadership, and contributions to Malaysia’s growth and international standing.
Over the past few years, Pakistan and Malaysia have worked together in several key areas, including defense cooperation, education, and trade agreements.
In the economic sector, both countries are making efforts to increase bilateral trade, with Malaysia being one of Pakistan’s important trading partners in Southeast Asia.
The countries signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on November 8, 2007, which came into force on January 1, 2008.
This was Pakistan’s first comprehensive FTA incorporating trade in goods, trade in services, investment, and economic cooperation; and it was Malaysia’s first FTA with a South Asian country.
Both envoys expressed optimism about future collaborations and agreed to continue working closely through bilateral channels and multilateral forums to advance shared objectives.
