Brussels, 25 September 2023 (TDI): Janez Lenarcic, European Commissioner for Crisis Management has officially announced a humanitarian aid package of €1 million for Pakistan monsoon flood relief from the European Union (EU) to provide relief for the vulnerable population affected by the monsoon floods in Pakistan on Monday, September 25.

Lenarcic emphasized the European Union’s commitment to assisting the most vulnerable people in Pakistan, particularly in light of the devastating floods that struck the country a year ago.

As the new rainy season has once again led to the displacement of thousands of people across different regions of Pakistan, the European Union has extended its financial support program to assist these affected populations in their recovery efforts.

These funds are allocated towards addressing the most pressing needs of the vulnerable populations in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Moreover, this substantial humanitarian aid will encompass a multi-sectoral approach, including support for repairing damaged houses and providing essential services such as food, clean water, and sanitation to those who have been displaced.

He also outlined the European Union’s future plans to continue assisting the vulnerable population throughout the winter season. Priority will be given to providing shelter and non-food items to those affected by the floods.

He further highlighted that this new aid package is in addition to the €16.5 million humanitarian aid package released earlier this year by the European Union for Pakistan.

The recent floods have affected a significant portion of the population, with an estimated 0.9 million people affected. Moreover, vast agricultural lands, including standing crops, have been inundated by recent flooding.

Several areas in Pakistan remain under the threat of further flooding, including the villages of Shaho Baloch, Baqarki, Mari Amb, Kot Bakhsha, and others.
