Paris, 13 November 2021 (TDI): On Thursday, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, officially announced the European Union’s decision to join the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of the ongoing Paris Peace Forum happening in France. The President of the European Commission called for safe use of the Internet and paired technologies for the betterment of modern times.
She further reiterated that world leaders can ensure their commitment to free cyberspace through this platform. She also welcomed the United States’ commitment to the initiative.

This year the Paris Peace Forum has aimed to address digital rights in society, trust, and security in Cyber Space, post Covis-19 scenario, and climate challenges. The participation from big majority stakeholders, such as the United States and EU will ensure the success of the respective forum.
In this regard, the European Union has announced its Cyber Security Resilience Act as well. The Act aims to establish common standardization for cybersecurity products, besides enhancing the cybersecurity requirements in critical sectors like health.
Josep Borrell Fontelles, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has also called for a stable, secure, and trustworthy cyberspace for all stakeholders amid the Peace Forum 2021.
Moreover, Vera Jourova, the former European Commissioner, highlighted the significance of trustable journalism while giving remarks on the EU’s decision to join the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace. She maintained that it is part of the Union’s policy to take up the issues related to transparency in journalism.
This year marked the fourth edition of the annual Paris Peace Forum. There are around one hundred world leaders participating in the forum alongside their policy statements. The Forum aims to address the critical challenges through providing good governance in a peaceful environment.
