EU concerned for Afghanistan

-

Brussels, 16 August 2021 (TDI): EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles has expressed concern about the situation in Afghanistan and the Taliban takeover. On Sunday, the Taliban entered Kabul and took control of the government as a result of which large numbers of people were seen to flee the country.

According to High Representative Josep Borrel Fontelles, protection and security are fundamental human rights. Therefore, human life must be protected and civil order in the country must be restored.

The EU High Representative also said that Afghan people have a right to live in security and dignity. The international community must play its part and call on all parties to facilitate the safe departure of foreign and Afghan nationals wishing to leave the country.
