UK Government donates vaccines to Africa

-

London, 16 August 2021 (TDI): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed action by the UK government to donate vaccines against the COVID 19 pandemic to African countries.

On Friday, the Gavi vaccine alliance announced in a statement that the first batch of vaccines donated by COVAX will land in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In addition, about 3 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will be shipped from England to eleven African countries in the coming days.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised the measure, saying that 3 million people will now be safe and have access to vaccinations against COVID 19. The UK Prime Minister also said that the 3 million who now have access to these vaccines will join the circle of about a billion people protected by AstraZeneca. The UK will continue its legacy as the UK has already promised 80 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to COVAX.
