Islamabad, 23 March 2022 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi addressed the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Islamabad from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Wang Yi enunciated that “China and Islamic states should firmly support each other to take development routes in sync with their own national circumstances along with safeguarding the legitimate interests and rights of developing states.”

This is the first time that a Chinese Foreign Minister attended the OIC’s session. It is a reflection of the true desire of both sides to strengthen relations and mutually advantageous collaboration.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese and Islamic civilizations are both ancient civilizations with substantial international impact. Consequently, bilateral cordial relations have withstood shifts in the global landscape.

He further underscored that equality is the basis of mutual interaction, friendship is the mainstream of linkages between the two sides, and win-win is the purpose of mutual collaboration.

Chinese and the Islamic civilizations have been evolving side by side concurrently in comradeship and win-win partnership. This has set a satisfactory example to foster global ties along with equipping with practical knowledge about the interaction between different countries and civilizations.

In addition, Wang Yi highlighted that the world is rapidly evolving and China is willing to work with Islamic states to safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, support authentic multilateralism, and maintain the international system.

The international system must be maintained with the UN at its core. He encouraged the two sides to support each other in protecting their independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Along these lines, Foreign Minister Wanf urged that China and Islamic countries ought to partner in development and revitalization. Furthermore, the two sides should unite against the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic along with strengthening development strategies.

The Chinese dignitary also expressed support for Islamic countries to utilize Islamic wisdom for the resolution of current hotspot issues, like Afghanistan, Palestine, and Ukraine issues.
