Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan will intensify its diplomatic outreach on the Iran–US crisis when Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar attends a high-level United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on May 26, Dawn reported citing diplomatic sources.
The session is being convened under China’s presidency of the Security Council and comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing mediation efforts involving several countries, including Pakistan.
According to the UN program, the ministerial debate will focus on “Maintenance of international peace and security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centred International System.” The meeting will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also been invited, though Tehran has not yet confirmed his participation. Ishaq Dar will arrive in New York on May 25 after accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his visit to China.
Foreign ministers from several countries, including Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Turkmenistan, the Czech Republic, Colombia and others, are expected to attend.

All five permanent members of the Security Council, the United States, China, Russia, France and the United Kingdom, are also scheduled to participate. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio may represent Washington, though confirmation is pending.
Pakistan has consistently called for de-escalation in the Middle East and a peaceful resolution of the Iran–US standoff in line with the principles of the UN Charter.
