Islamabad, 14 June 2023 (TDI): Yesterday, a community event was organized by Pakistan Business Forum France. At this event, the Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis (OSPs), Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, was invited as a chief guest.
In addition, the Minister appreciated the important role played by OSPs and to solve their problems as well as to promote the interests of the citizens abroad.
Sardar Saleem Haider Khan
Sardar Saleem Haider Khan is a Pakistani politician and had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013. Now, he serves as the Minister of Resource and Development and, secondly, as the Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis.
In the past, he served as the Minister of State for Defense Production under the federal cabinet of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani in 2008.
Role of OSPs (Overseas Pakistanis)
There are a lot of Pakistanis who live abroad. More than 10 million Pakistanis live outside Pakistan. The majority of overseas Pakistanis live in the Middle East and then Europe and the USA.
Moreover, significant numbers of Pakistanis living in Europe and the USA have dual nationalities and permanent residency. The main reasons for Pakistanis living abroad are economic, professional, and educational opportunities.
According to credible sources, overseas Pakistanis send about US$13 billion every year. Whenever Pakistan faced a disaster situation overseas, Pakistanis provided a lot of help to Pakistan.
Solution of Problems of OSPs and Promotion of their Interests
There is a large number of Pakistanis who work abroad and face problems like non-payment of wages, delayed salaries, substandard living conditions, etc.
Therefore, the government of Pakistan, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, has drafted a first National Policy with a focus on increasing the welfare and empowerment of Pakistani citizens working in different countries across the globe.
Furthermore, the promotion of the interests of Pakistanis living abroad is the main focus of the government.
