Chinese Envoy for Afghanistan met Foreign Secretary Pakistan

Islamabad, 20 August 2021 (TDI): The special Chinese envoy for Afghanistan Yue Xiaoyong met Foreign Secretary Pakistan Sohail Mahmood, today in Islamabad. Both sides discussed the recent situation in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Foreign Secretary expressed the viewpoint of Pakistan on the evolving situation in Afghanistan. He mentioned that Pakistan desires peace in its neighboring state. He added that the current scenario in Afghanistan demands safety, security, and protection of rights of Afghans as well as stability and an inclusive political settlement. He also added that international engagement and humanitarian aid is important to bring stability to Afghanistan.

Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood also enlightened the Chinese envoy on the operations Pakistan has been involved in to evacuate people, IGO’s and the embassy personnel from Afghanistan.

Both Yue Xiaoyong and Sohail Mahmood agreed to maintain close coordination and cooperation over the Afghan issue. Before coming to Pakistan, Yue Xiaoyong also met the Foreign Minister of Iran Javed Zarif on 16th August and discussed changing situations in Afghanistan with him.
