Chinese Embassy’s statement on the Gwadar attack

Islamabad, August 21, 2021 (TDI): On 20th August, a motorcade which carried Chinese nationals at the Gwadar East Bay Expressway project in Balochistan was attacked by a suicide bomber leaving one Chinese and 2 local children dead and several others injured. The Chinese Embassy Pakistan issued an official statement on the attack.

In the statement, the embassy condemned the act and extended sympathies to the injured of both nations, and solaced the families of local Pakistani children who lost their lives in the inhumane attack.

The embassy urged the Pakistani authorities to treat the wounded properly and to investigate the matter to its core and punish the perpetrators. The embassy also demanded the Pakistani authorities take all the practical and effective measures to accelerate, enhance, update and boost the security mechanism so that such incidents can be avoided in the future.

In relevance to the recent security situation and terrorist attacks on Chinese nationals in Pakistan, the embassy also advised the Chinese citizens to remain alert, enhance safety precautions, avoid unnecessary outings and adopt appropriate security measures.

A similar attack was also observed last month where Chinese nationals who were traveling in a bus to Dasu, whereas this attack was conducted on Gwadar Eastbay Expressway, a China-aided project and a highlight of CPEC.
