Colombo, 11 August 2021 (TDI): The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong met the Sri Lankan health minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi at the Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka. During the meeting, both sides discussed the current COVID circumstances in Sri Lanka.
Health minister Wanniarachchi appreciated the Chinese Government for assisting Sri Lanka during the pandemic by providing essential medical equipment and vaccines to the state. She also praised China’s efforts in fulfilling almost 80% of vaccine requirements for Sri Lanka, making the local vaccination drive a success.
Ambassador Qi for his part discussed the latest COVID19 developments in the state and announced the new donations of essential medical equipment to help Sri Lanka in its fight against COVID. Qi also assured that despite increasing local demand China will fully support the vaccination drive in Sri Lanka by ensuring the timely supply of the vaccine.
The Sri Lankan students, who are likely to return back to China were also a part of the discussion. Both sides mentioned that the completion of studies of these students is highly important and reaffirmed that they will fully support the students under the current circumstances.
