China supports Ethiopia to resolve its internal issues

Geneva, 18 December 2021 (TDI): China will always support solving the African issues in an African way. The statement was made by Li Song, the Chinese Ambassador for Disarmament Affairs and Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the UN Office in Geneva.

China observes the policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. Ambassador Li Song enunciated that the international community ought to provide productive assistance to Ethiopia.

Furthermore, the Human Rights Council ought to follow the precepts of objectivity, impartiality, non-selectivity as well as non-politicization.

The statement by the Ambassador came in the wake of the recent resolution adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council. The resolution established an international commission of experts to conduct an investigation in Ethiopia; into the claims of human rights abuses and violations during the conflict.

A special session held at the request of the European Union passed the resolution. According to the resolution, the presumed brutal human rights abuses and violations in Ethiopia must be scrutinized by an international rights probe.

Ethiopian Crisis

Ethiopia is a strategically significant country situated in the Horn of Africa region. The yearlong conflict in Ethiopia has left thousands dead and millions stranded. The country is facing acute famine in some parts and the threat of a severe humanitarian crisis.

The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) or the Tigray separatists have targeted civilians, destroyed schools, food warehouses, industrial buildings, and health facilities wreaking havoc on the general populace and creating a crisis like situation.

The conflict escalated when the insurgents surged towards Addis Ababa, the capital city of the country. As a result, the Ethiopian government declared a state of emergency. Since then, the on-ground situation is deteriorating because of the insurgency.
