Chinese Foreign Minister speaks with Iranian counterpart

Beijing, 18 December 2021 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi talked with the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on the phone call.

The two counterparts discussed bilateral relations especially their stance on the Iranian Nuclear Deal. The Iranian Foreign Minister highlighted the progress made by parties of the Nuclear Talks after its resumption. He appreciated the Chinese positive role to advance the negotiations on the right path.

Abdollahian stated that Iran has a firm belief in the negotiations and has taken constructive measures for the success of the talks. He emphasized that Iran believes in dialogue for the Iranian Nuclear Deal and will continue to participate in the talks with a flexible spirit. He pointed out that if the United States and the European Union have the same positive attitude then the success of the talks will be inevitable.

Abdollahian stressed that the trilateral nuclear submarine pact by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia violates International Law and undermines the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

He stated that AUKUS, the trilateral military alliance between the US, UK, and Australia harm the peace and stability not only of the region but also the world. He highlighted that if the countries follow the path of AUKUS in nuclear proliferation then AUKUS should be held responsible for the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Iranian nuclear situation is at a critical crossroads

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that the Iranian Nuclear Deal is in a critical position. All the relevant parties should stay committed to the political solution of the talks. He said that China welcomes the resumption of the Iranian Nuclear Talks under the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Wang stated that China appreciated the decision of Iran to move forward with the negotiations process. China supports the political settlement of the Iranian Nuclear Deal, he added. He emphasized that China opposes the wrong practice of exerting pressure by forming new sanctions. He urged the United States to remove all the unilateral sanctions from Iran for the success of the Iranian Nuclear Deal.

The Chinese foreign minister pointed out that China and Iran are comprehensive strategic partners. The two countries support each other in the areas of mutual interests. He stated that China is the all-weather friend of Iran and nothing in international relations can harm their friendship.

Wang highlighted that China will continue to support Iran on the Iranian Nuclear Deal for the political settlement. Earlier this week, the Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Geng Shuang urged for the political solution of the Iranian Nuclear Talks in the United Nations Security Council.

Chinese Foreign Minister stated that China will continue to work for the peace and stability of the world. China opposes all unilateral actions and supports multilateralism in the world.
