Beijing, 26 March 2022 (TDI): President of China, Xi Jinping, spoke over the phone with ROK President-elect Yoon Suk-Yeol.
Once again, China’s President congratulated President Yoon Suk-Yeol on his victory in the recent elections. The exchange took place on March 25.
Remarks of President Xi
During the conversation, President Xi highlighted that China and ROK are enjoying close and harmonious relations. Similarly, both countries are inseparable partners of collaboration in various fields.
Over the years, China-ROK relations have grown in numerous areas. In the same vein, both countries are strategic partners as well. However, the fundamental interest of both states is to develop relations for peace and stability in the region.
Further, this year, China and ROK are celebrating their 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Therefore, both countries should take this occasion as an opportunity to uphold mutual respect and enhance political trust.
Likewise, both sides pointed out the need to boost people-to-people contacts. Eventually, this will help to the sustainable but steady growth of bilateral ties.
President Xi also highlighted that China and ROK should strive to maintain global prosperity and regional peace. Currently, he remarked that the international community is facing many challenges which have negative implications for global prosperity.
In the same vein, China’s President expressed preparedness to work with ROK for strengthening regional and international collaborative ties. He also pointed out the need for positive efforts for the stability and smooth functioning of global industrial and supply chains.
Eventually, President Xi stressed the need to uphold the UN-centered international system and the significance of international law in the context of world order. Accordingly, he reaffirmed to promote a fair and equitable global governance system.
Remarks of President-elect Yoon Suk Yeol
In response, President-elect Yoon Suk-Yeol extended congratulations to his Chinese counterpart for successfully conducting Two Sessions. During the conversation, he also emphasized the achievements of China in the context of national development.
He further noted that China and ROK are enjoying friendly exchanges for a long. During the past 30 years, he said that China and ROK have secured achievements in various fields for the tangible benefits of the people of both states.
Besides, he stated that China and ROK will serve a positive role towards the stability of Northeast Asia. Lastly, he expressed willingness to arrange high-level exchanges with China to promote mutual trust and people-to-people contacts.
