Islamabad, 27 December 2021 (TDI): Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, appreciated China’s help for Pakistan in the local production of Covid-19 vaccines. China has always supported Pakistan in the hour of need and the pandemic situation was no different.
Pakistan signed a deal with Chinese company CansinoBio in March this year. Under the agreement, Pakistan imported a concentrate of the vaccine in large quantity. It was so that Pakistan can process and package the vaccine locally.
Dr. Faisal Sultan stated that the local production of the China-based vaccine will persist to meet the need of the country. After importing the concentrate of vaccine, Pakistan started the production of single-dose Chinese CanSinoBio COVID-19 vaccine with the help of China.
This will help the country to deliver 3 million doses per month with the name of PakVac. Sources claim that so far millions of doses have been dispatched to the vaccination centers since the inception of the production plant in Islamabad.
According to Dr. Faisal Sultan, the Chinese vaccines are highly efficacious. Ever since the outbreak of Covid-19, China has been helping many countries across the world in their fight against the virus. China has supplied vaccines as well as relevant medical equipment to Pakistan and many other countries.
The Chinese company CanSinoBio has transferred some of its production technology to Pakistan and is also overseeing operations. However, quality control is being carried out by Pakistan through the relevant technology that Pakistan has acquired.
National Institute of Health claims that the Pakistani-made vaccine will save around 25% in terms of costs. Pakistan faced an initial shortage of vaccine supplies and vaccination hesitancy because of a population of 220 million people. Later, however, Pakistan began mass vaccination for all adults.
The mass vaccination of Pakistan has mostly relied on China’s support in the form of Sinopharm, SinoVac, and CanSinoBio.
