China opposes Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania

Beijing, 19 November 2021 (TDI): China has expressed firm opposition to the establishment of the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania.

Lithuania has allowed the Taiwanese authorities to establish its representative office in Lithuania despite strong objections from China. Taiwan opened its de facto embassy in Lithuania on Thursday, 18 November 2021.

Lithuania announced in July to allow self-ruled Taiwan to open its representative office in Lithuania. China in its opposition called its ambassador off from Lithuania in expressing its protest to the Lithuanian government.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated that it creates the wrong impression of the One-China policy in the world. China strictly opposes such actions by any state in the world, he added. He said that China rejects the establishment of relations of Lithuania with Taiwan.

China will not allow anyone to undermine its sovereignty

Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the establishment of Lithuanian diplomatic relations with Taiwan undermines Chinese sovereignty and its territorial integrity. It also stated it is the interference in the Chinese internal affairs and China will not tolerate it.

The Chinese government expressed strong protest over the blatant act by Lithuania. China will do anything to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Therefore, Lithuania should be ready to face the consequences of its egregious act.

China has always stated there is only one China and the world should abide by the One-China policy. It demanded the government of Lithuania to undo its heinous act and it should cancel the establishment of the Taiwanese Office in Lithuania. China also warned Taiwan to not seek support for Taiwanese Independence.

Recently, U.S. President Joe Biden also assured American commitment to One-China policy in his virtual Summit with the Chinese counterpart. China is committed to not compromising on its One-China policy stand. China has intensified its efforts for the reunification of One-China. Just 15 states in the world have formed diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
