Kingston, 17 October 2022 (TDI): The Chinese Embassy in Jamaica hosted a forum celebrating 50 years of relations between Jamaica and China.
The Jamaican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Kamina J. Smith, participated in the symposium alongside the Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, Chen Daojiang.
Both the state representatives discussed their bilateral partnership and achievements. Jamaican Foreign Minister appreciated China’s support in providing training and opportunities to young Jamaicans to enhance their skills.
In this regard, China has also awarded various scholarships to the country’s people for learning and utilizing their professional skills.

The importance of economic and technical cooperation between both states was highlighted during the discussion. Along with this, the cooperation in cultural, sports, health, and technological areas were underlined.
Jamaica-China Relations
The diplomatic relations between both states were established in 1972, after which China opened its embassy in Kingston in 1973.
Jamaica was among the first several countries in the Caribbean to develop relations with China. The year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the bilateral relationship between China and Jamaica.
Over the past 50 years, bilateral relations between both states have developed steadily. They cooperate in health, economy, politics, culture, and the military.
Both states have common grounds and interests that fuel their cooperation at the international level. The bilateral relationship between both countries brings mutual opportunities and benefits.
Both states have signed various memorandums of understanding to learn from each other’s expertise in different fields.

A series of events and receptions would be conducted to commemorate the jubilee of the bilateral relationship. China marks this anniversary as an opportunity to enhance its practical cooperation with Jamaica in various fields.
Both states would pursue cooperation in Belt and Road project and promote their strategic partnership to a higher level.
