Phnom Penh, 14 February 2022 (TDI): The National Football Team of Cambodia will face off their Brunei counterpart today at Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh.
The 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U23 Championship or the AFF U23 Championship 2022 is hosted by Cambodia and will take place from February 14 to 26, 2022, at Morodok Techo National Stadium as well as Prince Stadium.

The President of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), Sao Sokha, expressed his satisfaction with Cambodia’s position as the host of the sports event. He thanked the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) for choosing Cambodia to host it.
For the tournament, ten football teams have been divided into three poles i.e. A, B, C, to participate in the regional football competition. Pole A has Cambodia, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and Brunei.

Whilst pole B includes Myanmar, Malaysia, and Laos. Whereas, pole C has Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. The Cambodian football squad will have two other matches; one with the Philippines on February 17 and one with Timor-Leste on February 20. Both matches will be held at Morodok Techo National Stadium.
The third edition of the 2022 AFF U23 Championship is scheduled from 14-26 February. The tournament will be a great opportunity for Cambodia to showcase their new 60,000-seat capacity Morodok Techo National Stadium.

Likewise, it is a chance for them to show their prowess in front of their home crowd in the inaugural match against Brunei. Cambodia’s Head Coach, Hirose Ryu says that the team aims for a good result as this will be good practice for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
Cambodia will be hosting the SEA Games in 2023. However, Aminuddin Jumat, the Head Coach of Brunei’s Football Team expressed that today’s match will be trying after a long two-year break from international matches.
