Phnom Penh, 24 December 2021 (TDI): Cambodia and Vietnam pledged to provide a boost to cooperation in Law and Justice. The development came after a meeting held between the Cambodian Minister of Justice, Koeut Rith, and Nguyen Khanh Ngoc, the Vice Minister of Justice of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Phnom Penh, today.

During the talks, the two sides had also shown agreement to promote comprehensive legal cooperation for mutual benefit. They have also decided to establish a focal point between the two Ministries of Justice of the respective countries.
The action plan of 2022-2023 guided the comprehensive legal cooperation between the two countries. Action Plan 2022-2023 was signed between Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Akka Moha Hun Sen, and Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Vietnamese President was on a two-day official state visit to Cambodia from December 21 to 22 where the Cambodian King hosted him. During the Presidential tour, Vietnam also signed 7 key Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with Cambodia.
The MOUs also include minutes of the 19th Meeting of the Cambodia-Vietnam Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
Enhancement of Strategic Cooperation
Cambodia has been eyeing to enhance further strategic cooperation with Vietnam. The development came when Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng held a meeting with the Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, Lt. General To Lam.
During the meeting, the two sides highly valued bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. They also added that the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Public Security of respective countries are cooperating in addressing transnational crimes.
Such crimes include illicit drugs as well as human trafficking. While Vietnamese Lieutenant General To Lam also congratulated Cambodia as the rotating Chair of ASEAN for 2022.
