Phnom Penh, 1 November 2021 (TDI): The Tourism Development Planning Department of Cambodia announced that the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has provided approximately $1 million for tourism. The transaction was made through the Enterprise Development Program of the United Nations (UNIDO).

Donation for Tourism

The donation was made for the implementation of Agri-food production and tourism programs in Cambodia. The funding will support economic growth in Cambodia through the refurbishment of Agri-food and tourism spheres. The aid will also help in the rehabilitation of small and medium enterprises. The target areas are in Battambang, Pursat, and Kampong Chhnang provinces.

Refurbishment of Tourism Industry

Choub Ratana, the Director of Tourism Development Planning Department stated that the aim is to implement minimum standard operation procedures to resuscitate the tourism industry in the country. Consequently, businesses, accommodation services, restaurants, canteens, and community tourism will flourish.

According to him, the funding will provide technical support, equipment, and relevant infrastructure as well as the tourism community.

Earlier, UNIDO also organized a workshop on the plan to support the rejuvenation of enterprises in agriculture, tourism, and food; in the Battambang province of Cambodia. It will help to promote the tourism development plan 2021-2025.

The Preah Vihear Temple is an ancient Khmer temple. It is believed to be built during the period of the Khmer Empire.

The temple is situated on a 525-meter cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains. The Dângrêk Mountains are in the Preah Vihear province of Cambodia. The Dângrêk Mountains, are a natural border between Cambodia and Thailand.

Sihanoukville

Aside from the historical sites, Cambodia is increasingly becoming popular for its beaches, specifically the Sihanoukville beach. Sihanoukville is a coastal city in Cambodia and the capital of Sihanoukville Province.

It is also known as Kampong Som.
