Khartoum, 14 February 2022 (TDI): The Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council has stressed the unified national and international efforts in order to settle the Sudan political crisis.

The news came to the surface during Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council‘s three days visit to Sudan. During Burhan’s working visit to Sudan, he met the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

He applauded the African Union’s (AU) efforts for peace and stability in the African region, particularly Sudan. Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council focused on the peace and stability of the politically vulnerable state of Sudan.

At the current time of political crisis in Sudan, he stressed the need to unite regional and international efforts to resolve the looming crisis in Sudan.

United Nations Efforts

United Nations (UN) is also concerned with the current insecure political situation facing the state of Sudan. UN has nominated its Special Envoy to Sudan, who recently initiated an effort to start a dialogue between the civilian and military leadership.

This dialogue will eventually end the crisis and bring the civilian and military leadership on a single page. Apart from the UN, various other stakeholders are also actively involved to plan for mediation.

African Union Peace and Security Council

African Union PSC had earlier legitimized the military coup, calling the military for holding the national election in the coming six to twelve months. On the contrary, Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) have rejected the official statement of the council.

The FFC considers the African Union decision as “unprecedented interference” in Sudan’s internal affairs. The African Union PSC had played a vital role in the past as well, but this time it seems like the two, FFC and PSC are on the contrary side.

Apart from this, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee explained the current political crisis in her testimony to the US Senate, that there is a space to reach a diplomatic solution for the Sudan political crisis. She also explained the pause of financial assistance towards Sudan.
