Beijing 2022: Xu Mengtao wins historic gold in Women’s Aerials

Beijing, 14 February 2022 (TDI): Xu Mengtao became the first Chinese freestyle freeskier to win the Gold medal in women’s aerials. She claimed the win after a dramatic finale to the contest with a score of 108.61.

This amazing achievement of Xu Mengtao is China’s 5th Gold medal in the Winter Games. Previously Xu had won a Silver in Sochi though finished down in 9th place at Pyeongchang. She said that she just wanted to do the best tricks she could do.

Hanna Huskova of Belarus claimed the Silver medal after coming second in the competition after her jump of 107.95. She has the honor of being the 2018 gold medallist. While Megan Nick of the United States with a score of 93.76 won the bronze.

Jubilant Chinese officials took to Twitter to express their joy at this remarkable win. Zhang Heqing, Counsellor & Director at the China Cultural Centre, Pakistan shared the triumphant news through his official Twitter account.

Xu Mengtao is a Chinese Olympic Champion aerial skier. She has two World Cup victories to her credit as well as an Olympic Gold. Moreover, she is also the current World Cup leader along with being the first Chinese woman to win an Olympic gold in the Aerial Ski event.

Freestyle skiing is comprised of aerials, half-pipe, slopestyle, moguls, cross, and big air as part of the Winter Olympics Games. The athletes can perform aerial flips and spins along with skiers sliding rails and boxes on skis. It is also known as Aerial Skiing.
