Brussels, 13 October 2023 (TDI): Belgium Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo along with Foreign Minister Hadja Labib and Minister of Development and Cooperation, Caroline Gennez warmly welcomed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine to Brussels. 

During the meeting, Belgium reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to support Ukraine in diplomacy, defense, and humanitarian aid.

During their discussion, President Zelenskyy expressed his deep appreciation for Belgium’s assistance in various areas including security, political support, humanitarian aid, and economic help. 

Furthermore he also underscored the critical role of Belgium in safeguarding Ukraine against Russian threats and he extended his gratitude to the Belgian government for providing fighter jets and training Ukrainian pilots and particularly acknowledged the upcoming  delivery of F-16 jets in 2025.

Furthermore, Belgium recently joined the Information Technology Coalition, which bolsters the cybersecurity of Ukraine and was commended by President Zelenskyy for countering Russian threats.

He also praised Belgium for his active involvement in promoting Ukraine’s peace initiatives and its support for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and NATO.

President Zelenskyy noted that allied countries are collaborating on new sanctions against Russia and the prevention of circumvention of the restriction already imposed.

Prime Minister Alexander De Croo reiterated Belgium’s support for Ukraine through military aid, economic sanctions on Russia, and the allocation of 1.7 billion euros from frozen Russian assets. He further mentioned that the income tax revenue from these assets will be used for the benefit of Ukraine and its citizens.
