Brasília, 3 October 2023 (TDI): The 2nd Foreign Office Consultation of Brazil and Bangladesh was held in Brasília on October 2, to discuss the bilateral cooperation among the two countries.

At the consultative meeting, the Bangladesh side was represented by the Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) of Bangladesh, Masud Bin Momen, and Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil, Sadia Faizunnessa on behalf of the Bangladesh delegation.

While, the Brazilian side was represented by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Maria Laura da Rocha, Secretary of the Asia Pacific and Russia Department, Eduardo Saboa, and other diplomats from the relevant departments.

During the meeting, the respective countries talked through climate change, sustainable development goals, food and nutrition security, health care, women’s policy and human rights, and UN restructuring in detail.

Furthermore, the two countries discussed on potential areas of bilateral trade and investment between Brazil and Bangladesh, and Bangladesh’s Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA)/Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the South American Regional Trade Alliance Mercur.

During the meeting, the Senior Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh highlighted the unprecedented socio-economic development of Bangladesh under the leadership of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He also informed about the Bangladesh’s Prime Minister visionary action plan to build a knowledge and technology-based smart Bangladesh by 2041 by achieving sustainable development goals by 2030.

Besides that, he shed light on the strategic geopolitical importance of Bangladesh in the wider economic success of South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Also, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Maria Rocha appraised the success of Bangladesh in the national and international arena under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in poverty alleviation and elimination of inequality, women’s empowerment and climate change challenges.

While appraising the efforts of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, the Brazilian Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed her determination to further strengthen the ongoing friendly and cooperative relations between Bangladesh and Brazil. Emphasized on the growth of bilateral trade.

Meeting with the Foreign Minister of Brazil

In the afternoon of the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira hosted the Bangladesh Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary), Masoud Bin Momen.

In the meeting, the Foreign Secretary informed the Foreign Minister of Brazil about the undisputed leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the freedom struggle and the history of his long political struggle.

In the bilateral meeting, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira praised the unprecedented development of Bangladesh in socio-economic development in the past decade and expressed his interest in working together with Bangladesh in various forums in the international environment including trade and investment.

Furthermore, during the meeting, both parties expressed hope for an exchange of high-level visits between the two countries.

The Brazilian Foreign Minister expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their love for Brazilian football and their unwavering support for Brazil in the World Cup.

The Foreign Secretary Masoud Bin Momen handed over a letter signed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira inviting the President of Brazil to visit Bangladesh and supporting Brazil’s leadership initiative at the G-20 Forum.
