Baku, 22 August 2022 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on Sunday paid its condolences to the victims of a deadly road accident in the Turkish city of Gaziantep.

The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan through its official Twitter handle sympathized with the victims of the road accident in Turkiye.

In its statement, the Ministry wished for God’s mercy on those who lost their lives in the tragic road accident. The statement said, “We wish God’s mercy to those who lost their lives in a serious traffic accident”.

The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan also wished for the healing of those who were injured in the road accident in the Turkish city of Gaziantep.

Gaziantep Road Accident (Overview)

On 20th August 2022, a deadly traffic accident occurred in the Turkish city of Gaziantep. The Governor of Gaziantep, Davut Gul, confirmed that the horrific road accident resulted in more than a dozen deaths and 22 people incurred injuries.

The accident occurred when an ambulance, a fire brigade truck, and a news broadcast vehicle were hit by a passenger bus. This unfortunate incident took place on the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep Highway.

A larger number of medical teams came to the site of the accident and the injured were immediately hospitalized.

Turkiye-Azerbaijan Relations

In November 1991 shortly after the independence of Azerbaijan, Turkiye became the first state to recognize the Republic of Azerbaijan. The two countries also developed diplomatic relations the following year.

The relations between Turkiye and Azerbaijan are strategic and multifaceted. Frequent high-level contacts between the two countries are the main driving force of bilateral relations.

In March 2022, Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev, paid an official visit to Turkiye to further boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
