Khartoum, 15 February 2022 (TDI): Head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, General Abdel-Fattah Burhan met with Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki in Khartoum to discuss the political issues in Sudan.

Experts believe that any sort of agreement or initiative is necessary and can bring stability to the African region. Sudan is witnessing protests against the military coup of the last December.

Protesters in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan are showing resistance despite the crackdown by the state military. The African Union is highly concerned, as well as the great powers like the USA.

The previous day the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee explained the current political crisis in her testimony to the US Senate.

Sudan is witnessing daily demonstrations since last October when the military coup take place, while dissolved the civilian government headed by Abdalla Hamdok. African news claims that dozens of innocents are killed every day while protesting against the military coup.

Sudanese rejects the UN  

The capital of Sudan evidenced hundreds of people protesting against the UN’s offer to resolve the rapidly increasing political tensions in the region, particularly Sudan.

The protesters claim that the United Nations (UN) is not clarifying the terms and conditions which will be discussed between the UN and Sudan military leadership. “No discussion, no negotiation, and no legitimacy”, said a protester.

Although, Sudan’s Sovereign Council accepted the UN initiative last month and called on the African Union (AU) to participate in mediation to resolve the political crisis.

The UN’s initiative for bringing peace and stability through negotiation is supported by the US, UK, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission was on a three-day working visit to Sudan. During his visit, he met the national civilian and military stakeholders to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country.
