Amman, 24 December 2021 (TDI): The Oman delegation addressed the 5th session of the Arab Parliament’s Office. Hasan Ali al Madhani, in the representation of the Majlis Shura, attended the meeting with competent Council members in Jordan.

The Sultanate of Oman led and participated in different preparatory committees. As for the next plenary session to be held in Jordan, many proposals were reviewed to set today’s agenda.

The Arab Parliament

Along these lines, the Arab Parliament is the legislative body of the Arab League (LAS). Its system does not have a direct representation of the citizens. Therefore, the national parliaments of the 22 members of the League nominate 4 MPs each. In other words, they represent the Arab nation as a whole.

Thus, they represent the Arab Nation as a whole. That is why the Parliament’s importance lies in their members’ independence to own their voice in opinion. However, at the end of the debate, they should reflect on setting a united Arab political discourse.

5th Arab Parliament session review

Therefore, during the 5th session, Hasan Ali Al Madhani participated as the Vice-President of the Arab Parliament, while Adel al Asoumi served as the speaker. The first also chaired the discussion of the Joint Committee on Sustainable Development.

Thus, at the gathering, member States analyzed issues related to legislative aspects of the Parliament. Nonetheless, the main topic on the agenda was the Palestinian situation. In this line, all members agreed on supporting Palestine and its cause in the diversity of political platforms worldwide.

Relevant Remarks at the Advisory Groups

Besides that, many more deliberations took place in the permanent preparatory committees. That is why Saeed Al-Saadi joined in the meetings of the Legislative, Legal, and Human Rights Committee of the LAS Parliament.

He, as a current member of the committee, discussed the Secretary-General’s memorandum with his peers. It is about the steps forward to unify a regional strategy against child labor.

On the other hand, Hamid Al-Nasiri, an active member of the Shura house, attended the meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee. There he mentioned the Arab Forum to boost economic integration between the members.

Likewise, the attendees noted the role of the private sector in achieving integration. They specified private companies to participate in promoting intraregional trade. In addition, a legal model for artificial intelligence was developed during the preparatory meetings.

In addition, Sheikh Ali Nasser Al Mahrouq, who is a member of the legislative upper house, joined the Committee on Social, Educational, Cultural, Women and Youth Affairs as an active member. Also, together with the group’s participants, she discussed the Arab Law on Combating Violence against Women.

They studied the development of a climate framework and its mechanism to support Arab legislation. This one follows the parliament’s initiatives of the region, such as the Middle East Green Initiative proposed by Saudi Arabia.

Finally, Vice President Hassan presented the most prominent decision of the Parliament today. This one refers to the “Arab Parliamentary Network for Sustainable Development which has been approved by Parliament to exchange experiences with international organizations and committees.
